How to build an FFXIV house
Building a house in FFXIV is one of the most exhausting actions you can do in the game. To build a house you need to buy a Construction Permit. That is to say, first, you need to buy a plot in one of the Residential Districts: The Mist in Limsa Lominsa, The Goblet in Ul’dah, The Lavenders Beds in Gridania, and The Shirogane in Kugane. You can buy this permit by accessing your Housing menu on your plot and clicking on ‘Estate Hall’ and then in ‘Purchase Construction Permit’.
The Construct Permits are divided into 3 categories, depending on the material you choose for the exteriors of your house. These three types are: Composite, Stone, and Wood. In general, these permits have the same value. The materials can be changed in the future, but that will have an additional cost.
On the other hand, when you buy the land you have 45 days to acquire the Construction Permit. Otherwise, you will lose the plot due to reclamation for inactive housing.
Building an FFXIV house, just like buying it, depends on the size of the plot. The Construction Permit depends on the size of the land you have bought. Buying a permit will cost you:
- Small cottage - 450.000 Gil
- Medium house - 1.000.000 Gil
- Large Mansion - 3.000.000 Gil
As you might suppose, large, medium, and small houses can be built in their respective sizes. Even, you can’t buy a small house in a bigger plot. In this case, you have to relinquish the plot and get new land.
Final Fantasy XIV housing costs
As to be expected, the price of the house depends on the size of the house you want to buy or build and on the desirability of the plot in the district or the time sale of the construction in the markets. The prices of the house have a range: the price of a small house is between 3 and 4 million Gil, the price of a medium house is between 15 and 20 million and for a large house you have to pay between 40 and 50 million Gil.
Anyway, every four hours the prices of the houses drop and that is a good opportunity to purchase with other values, although the impact that it will have on your economy will not be much.
The most difficult aspect of getting a house in FFXIV is the availability of parcels. On the low-end servers, you will not have problems buying a piece of land. On the other hand, on the busiest servers, you will have to wait for 14 hours for the completion of the plot availability.
Keeping a Final Fantasy XIV house
Even though you don’t need to spend additional Gil to keep your house in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, you have to enter your house at least 1 time every 45 days. If you are not capable of doing this, you will lose your parcel because the plot will be considered abandoned and it will return to the markets. In the case of the Free Company Houses, at least 1 of the members of the Free Company has to enter the house every 45 days.
FFXIV House Relocation
When you get home, you can relocate it to your plot without the need to wait for the home timer. When you move to your house you will obtain a discount based on the size and the price of the old house. When you move, all your furniture, items will be moved to the warehouse. Finally, the shell of your house will scale automatically to the size of the new plot, so your small house will become a large building.
FFXIV housing conclusions
Final Fantasy housing is a very funny feature within the world of FFXIV. Of course, FFXIV housing is not necessary to finish the game or be victorious in battle, and less to get some kind of special reward, but it is a good distraction when you are sick of doing side quests, at least for a while. If you like to spend a lot of time doing random things in the world of Eorzea, parallel to the side quest or Main Scenario Quest, Furnishings are for you.
